What ingredients should you avoid in your sunscreen?

Not all sunscreens are created equal. Many contain ingredients that are being studied for their impact on our skin and the environment. Here's what they are.

The problem is not one product, but the sum of them all

It is true that these ingredients are approved in small, controlled doses. But the key question is: how many products with these doses do you use every day?

Gel, shampoo, moisturizer, makeup... and sunscreen.

The real concern does not come from a single product, but from the "cocktail effect": continuous and accumulated exposure to small doses from multiple sources. Therefore, choosing a sunscreen free of these ingredients is a simple and powerful step to reduce your daily chemical load.

🚫 Ingredients we are studying closely

These are some chemical filters that, for various reasons, we prefer not to include in our product selection. Take note!

  • Oxybenzone: A widely used UV filter that can be absorbed through the skin. It has been re-evaluated within the European regulatory framework, adjusting its maximum concentrations as part of the usual process for reviewing the safety of cosmetic ingredients.
  • Homosalate: A UV filter that can be absorbed through the skin. It has been subject to re-evaluation in the European Union, which has updated its permitted concentrations within the usual precautionary approach in cosmetics.
  • Octinoxate: A UV filter subject to scientific study in relation to its possible endocrine activity observed in experimental studies. Evidence in humans remains inconclusive.
  • Octocrylene: A widely used and authorized UV filter in cosmetics. Its stability and possible degradation products have been evaluated within the usual regulatory processes, remaining within the limits considered safe for use.
  • Avobenzone: An effective UVA filter whose main characteristic is its photostability, so it needs to be combined with other ingredients to maintain its effectiveness during sun exposure.
  • Octisalate: A widely used and well-tolerated UVB filter, often used in combination with other filters to improve protection.

✅ The alternative: mineral filters

The good news is that there is a wonderful alternative. Mineral filters, such as Zinc Oxide (non-nano) and Titanium Dioxide (non-nano), act like a mirror on your skin.

They create a physical barrier that reflects solar radiation, without penetrating the body or harming marine ecosystems. They are the safest and most respectful option for you and the planet.
