Alma Eko II potions: Liquid shampoo with solid shampoo residue

The potions are back! Today we bring you a new recipe from 'Alma Eko's Potions,' the section we launched a couple of weeks ago where we want to show you recipes for homemade hygiene, cosmetics, and cleaning products. Always with natural ingredients that will help you reduce waste .

Today we bring you a leftover recipe that we think is perfect to share in July, the month without plastic .

We're a bit obsessed with making the most of the products that come into our homes. We want to extend their useful life as long as possible, give them endless uses, and waste nothing...

Today we're going to show you what you can do with leftover solid shampoo that's so small it's unmanageable . Don't you hate not being able to use it?

One option is to put those pieces in the soap remnants bag and use it to wash your body in the shower . But I prefer another option because shampoo is shampoo, and body wash is body wash.

It's not a problem if you use shampoo on your body, not at all, but the truth is that shampoo is more expensive, specifically the one I use is from LaMalvaflor , they only make jewelry, and I feel bad not using it for my hair .

So the other option we suggest is to create a liquid shampoo with the leftover shampoo bar . It's a very simple, quick-to-make recipe that only requires three ingredients.

INGREDIENTS

  • Shampoo residue

In my case, I made this recipe with the leftover avocado shampoo from LaMalvaflor , which is wonderful for dry hair. But you can make this recipe with any other shampoo.

  • Water

The amount will depend on how many grams of shampoo you use, but the key is to use as little water as possible.

  • Guar gum

Guar gum is a natural thickener made from the seeds of the cyamopsis tetragonoloba plant. This ingredient gels liquids, giving them greater consistency, which will make your shampoo easier to apply and last longer.

The tip of a coffee spoon will be enough.

STEP BY STEP

STEP 1 : Heat a little water in a saucepan. Use a small one and just cover the bottom. You can always add more water if needed.

STEP 2 : Add the remaining shampoo and stir until completely dissolved. The water should not boil, so keep it on low heat and stir constantly. If it boils, the shampoo will become foamless. When it's ready, transfer it to a container. We used a 125 ml amber glass bottle with a measuring cap, which will allow us to get the most out of the resulting product.

STEP 3 : Add the guar gum to the mixture, cover the bottle, and shake well. Wait for the shampoo to cool to see if it has gelled. If it doesn't reach the consistency you want, reheat it (a double boiler is fine) and add more guar gum or water, as needed.

HOW TO USE IT AND MORE THINGS YOU'LL LIKE TO KNOW

Use it as you would any other gel shampoo .

Depending on how much shampoo you use and how much hair you have, you'll get more or less washes. I use solid shampoo to the max, so I always have a small amount left. Plus, I have quite a bit of hair, so the result is enough for four or five washes .

The result, at least with this LaMalvaflor shampoo , is somewhere between a shampoo and a conditioner . When dissolved and heated, it inevitably loses some foam, but the guar gum gives it a very creamy consistency. It's a very moisturizing shampoo that, when converted into a gel, distributes evenly throughout the hair. Hair is left perfectly clean while also being very soft .

We hope you enjoy this new section , that you'll be inspired to try the recipes we suggest, and that you'll tell us how they turned out.

On Alma Eko's blog, you can now find three recipes with natural ingredients that will allow you to ditch the packaging, use resources, and enjoy your own creations —always a pleasure. Here's the link to the previous two:
