Alma Eko II potions: Liquid shampoo with solid shampoo residue

The potingueras are back! Today we bring you a new recipe from 'Los potingues de Alma Eko' , the section we launched a couple of weeks ago in which we want to show you recipes for homemade hygiene, cosmetics and cleaning products. Always with natural ingredients that will help you reduce waste generation .

Today we bring you a recipe that we think is ideal to share in July, the month without plastic .

We are a bit obsessed with making the most of the products that come into our home. We want to extend their useful life as long as we can, give them infinite uses, not waste anything...

Today we are going to show you what you can do with the leftover solid shampoo that is so small that it is not manageable . Aren't you mad that you can't use it?

One option is to put those pieces in the soap scraps bag and use it to wash your body in the shower . But I prefer another option because shampoo is shampoo and body soap is body soap.

It's okay to use shampoo on your body, not at all, but the truth is that shampoo is more expensive, specifically the one I use is from LaMalvaflor , which only makes jewelry, and I regret not using it for my hair .

So the other option we suggest is to create a liquid shampoo with the remains of the bar . It is a very simple recipe, quick to make and only requires three ingredients.

INGREDIENTS

  • Shampoo residue

In my case, I made the recipe with the leftover avocado shampoo from LaMalvaflor , which is wonderful for dry hair. But you can make this recipe with any other shampoo.

  • Water

The amount will depend on how many grams of shampoo you use, but the key is to use as little water as possible.

  • Guar gum

Guar gum is a natural thickener made from the seeds of the Cyamopsis tetragonoloba plant. This ingredient gels liquids, giving them greater consistency, which will make your shampoo easier to apply and longer lasting.

The tip of a coffee spoon will be enough.

STEP BY STEP

STEP 1 : Heat some water in a saucepan. Use a small one and just cover the bottom. You can always add more water if you need to.

STEP 2 : Add the shampoo residue and stir until completely dissolved. The water should not boil, so put it on low heat and stir constantly. If it boils, the shampoo will stop foaming. When it is ready, pour it into a container. We used a 125 ml amber glass bottle with a dosing cap, which will allow us to make the most of the resulting product.

STEP 3 : Add the guar gum to the mixture, cover the bottle and shake well. You have to wait for the shampoo to cool down to see if it has gelled. If it has not reached the consistency you want, reheat it (a double boiler is enough) and add more guar gum or water, as needed.

HOW TO USE IT AND MORE THINGS YOU WILL LIKE TO KNOW

Use it as you would any other gel shampoo .

Depending on the amount of shampoo residue you use and the amount of hair you have, you will have enough for more or less washes. I use the solid shampoo as much as possible, so I always have a small amount left. Also, I have quite a lot of hair, so the result is enough for 4 or 5 washes .

The result, at least with this shampoo from LaMalvaflor, is halfway between shampoo and conditioner . When you dissolve it and heat it, it inevitably loses some foam, but the guar gum gives it a very creamy consistency. It is a very moisturizing shampoo that, when put into gel format, makes it spread very well throughout the hair. The hair is left perfectly clean while providing it with a lot of softness .

We hope you enjoy this new section , that you are encouraged to try the recipes we suggest and tell us how it went.
