Today we bring you a simple and effective trick to keep your washing machine and dishwasher in good condition . With three simple ingredients, you'll thoroughly clean your appliances without using products packaged in plastic .
The washing machine and dishwasher need to be cleaned regularly to ensure they work properly and prevent unpleasant odors . It depends on how much and how you use them, but generally, the washing machine needs a once-over every 50 washes; and the dishwasher, which I use a lot, gets a deep clean about once a month.
WHAT DO YOU NEED
The usual, basic ingredients for eco-friendly cleaning. It's a pleasure for us to have a few products that are very versatile and offer a ton of cleaning solutions for all areas of the house. And, of course, without plastic packaging . In this case, we're going to use:
- Vinegar : This can be wine vinegar, apple vinegar, or white vinegar. The one we have at Alma Eko is vegan (other cleaning vinegars use animal bones) and has a citrus aroma.
- Baking soda : a non-toxic cleaning essential. It's useful for a multitude of purposes. When it comes into contact with vinegar, it produces an effervescent reaction that helps remove stubborn dirt.
- Lemon essential oil : Not only will it provide a fresh citrus scent, but we'll also benefit from its cleansing properties, as it is a powerful degreaser, antiseptic, antibacterial, and antifungal.
HOW TO GET A DEEP CLEAN
The appliance must be completely empty . Remove and empty the filters , then replace them. Sprinkle vinegar generously throughout the interior of the washing machine or dishwasher. In the latter case, pour a good amount of vinegar into the filter area. You can also use a brush to remove any debris you find in specific areas: the drawer, rails, wheels, etc.
Put 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 5-10 drops of lemon essential oil in the detergent compartment .
Use the shortest program that allows washing at a high temperature , at least 60º.
And that's it . When you're done, you'll see that the interior is very clean and shiny . Repeat these steps periodically to ensure your appliances are thoroughly cleaned and remain in optimal condition.
