Por qué debes pasarte a los desodorantes naturales y sin tóxicos

Why you should switch to natural, non-toxic deodorants

Do you already have natural deodorants in your bathroom? If not, we encourage you to make the switch as soon as possible. It's one of those everyday gestures where, with a simple brand change, you can achieve a change of habit that only improves .

In this post, we'll give you two compelling reasons to switch from your conventional deodorant to one made with natural, toxin-free ingredients . We'll also provide a short guide to help you choose which of the options might be best for you.

Let's go... Why should you change your deodorant?

FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

With deodorants packaged in glass and cardboard, you're eliminating plastic from one of your bathroom staples . Plus, at Alma Eko, you'll find deodorants made with natural ingredients , with careful production processes to minimize their environmental impact .

And keep in mind that cream or stick deodorants last longer than conventional roll-on or spray deodorants. This means savings for your wallet and fewer polluting gas emissions from distribution.

FOR YOUR HEALTH

There is already a wealth of scientific evidence linking endocrine disruptors to cancer and autoimmune diseases . In the healthcare sector, many professionals still ignore this. And we're not talking about a couple of recent studies. We're talking about teams that have been researching this for decades, with compelling results based on very rigorous studies, yet, for some reason, they aren't given the attention they deserve.

We're not just making this up. We invite you to find out more about Dr. Nicolás Olea , Professor of Medicine at the University of Granada. For example, you can watch the doctor's interviews on Lucía Terol and Elena HG 's YouTube channels.

Among endocrine disruptors, aluminum salts have been shown to have a strong association with breast cancer . These are present in conventional deodorants. They are responsible for preventing perspiration.

We apply deodorant daily, under our arms, in an area where lymph nodes are frequently affected when breast cancer is diagnosed. So, if you're using this type of deodorant, change it.

Switch to aluminum-free natural deodorants . They often consist of ingredients that aren't antiperspirant, but rather antibacterial and moisture-absorbing , such as baking soda, white clay, or cornstarch , combined with plant and essential oils with different properties and scents .

A LITTLE PATIENCE. THE ADAPTATION PROCESS

You should keep in mind that if you've been using conventional deodorants containing aluminum salts, it will take your body some time to adapt to those made with natural ingredients, which do not block perspiration, but rather are breathable and absorbent.

This transition period can last between 2 and 4 weeks . During this time , the body will be expelling the antiperspirants that have blocked the skin's pores, preventing toxins from being expelled.

Alma Eko deodorants do breathe , allowing toxins to escape, but they prevent the growth of bacteria, or even prevent them from forming. Bacteria are what cause bad odor.

HOW DO I CHOOSE MY DEODORANT?

At Alma Eko, we have many different deodorant options because each one works differently for each person. We want to help you make the right choice the first time with this short guide, which explains the different options available.

It's important that you like the scent, but it's also important that you choose based on your level of sweating and whether or not you have sensitive skin.

At Alma Eko you will find deodorants in three different formats:

  • In cream , packaged in glass or aluminum
  • In bar or stick , packaged in cardboard
  • In powder form , more suitable for skin and footwear, but can also be used on the armpits.

As we mentioned above, these formats last longer than conventional deodorants.

When it comes to fragrances, we have plenty of options. From the Ben&Anna brand, a deodorant stick packaged in a carton , we have the Pink Grapefruit and Persian Lime varieties, very fresh and energizing, and also Nordic Timber, with a cedarwood scent and a hint of palmarosa (more frequently chosen by men).

The Naturlab brand also offers deodorant sticks in cardboard . They're very similar to the previous ones, but you generally tell us that you find them easier to apply. This brand offers the Tropical (sweet and fruity scent), Good Vibes (citrus fragrance), Fresh Mint (fresh mint and lemon scent), and Ocean (fresh and relaxing fragrance) varieties.

The fragrances of these deodorants are natural. They don't come from synthetic perfumes, but from essential oils . But we also have fragrance-free varieties , such as Pure by Ben&Anna or this other option from the I+M brand .

These essential oil-free options are generally more suitable for sensitive skin . If you have this type of skin or your underarms are easily irritated, for example, by hair removal, opt for these varieties; or for others that do contain essential oils but are specially formulated for sensitive skin, as they don't contain baking soda. Along these lines, you'll find Naturlab's Flow variety or Matarrania's lemon and thyme deodorant .

From the I+M brand we also have an extra-strong deodorant , designed for athletes or people with more intense sweating .

If you're looking for a compact, travel-sized deodorant that you can easily carry in your purse or backpack, the best option may be the mint one from the Clemence & Vivien brand .

A DEODORANT THAT LASTS 7 DAYS

Finally, we want to tell you about our latest addition to the Alma Eko catalog, which we think is a real revolution . Hero deodorant is actually an anti-odorant . Its main active ingredient is microsilver, which prevents bacteria from growing in the armpits, which is why there is no odor . It's another fragrance-free variety.

Hero deodorant is one of the most sustainable on the market . Not only is it made with natural ingredients and packaged without plastic , but it's also very long-lasting . A single application of this deodorant can last up to a week. This prevents the emission of polluting gases from its manufacturing and distribution .

What do you think of all these options? Do you know which one is best for you?

We don't want to end this post without giving you another option: making your own homemade deodorant . Here's a very simple recipe , made with just three ingredients: baking soda, coconut oil, and any essential oil you like.
