Why do you find this section in Alma Eko?

I'm sure that, like me, the indiscriminate use of plastic worries you and you want to make changes in your consumption to be part of the solution.

When you start to realise how harmful it is for the planet that we consume so much plastic and that recycling is absolutely insufficient, all the alarm bells start ringing. The fact that we realise the amount of plastic we consume is overwhelming.

That's what happened to me. I started to realise that plastic was everywhere: in the supermarket and all its packaged products, but also in my children's toys, my pet care products, all kinds of utensils I used in the kitchen (containers, scouring pads, cloths...), and almost all the cosmetics in my bathroom were packaged in plastic, even those whose ingredients were natural and of ecological origin.

I had already made some changes that helped take care of the planet, such as buying organic and locally grown food, making some homemade hygiene and cosmetic products, separating my waste so that it was easily recyclable or compostable, etc. But it wasn't enough! There was still a lot of plastic in my home.

I kept trying and little by little I changed one thing at a time. That's how I got loofah sponges and scrubbers, reusable food wrappers, coconut or bamboo utensils for my kitchen... And not only that, I also realized that I could decorate my house and do my relaxation practices with more sustainable materials. In this way, I discovered beautiful flower pots or candle holders free of plastic and candles, incense or white sage incense that were better for my health and not packaged in plastic.

I wanted to share all these discoveries and that is why this project was born, with the aim of inspiring and infecting more eko souls.

At Alma Eko we consider ourselves a plastic-free store, but we have realized that the oil industry is so powerful that we cannot escape it. In our catalog you can find some products that contain small percentages of petroleum derivatives. There are times when we have not found a better alternative. For example, it may happen that part of the cap of a reusable bottle is made of plastic. When we are faced with the decision of whether or not to include that product in our catalog, we think about whether it is a single-use plastic, if it has other qualities that make it worthwhile or if this product is better than its 'conventional' substitute.

Of course, we are committed to movements such as Zero Waste , Plastic Free , Low Waste or Low Plastic (the latter perhaps a bit more realistic). We care about the planet and we are aware that resources are finite and it is in our hands to make responsible use of them and stop polluting the oceans with our garbage.
