Los aceites esenciales son muy efectivos porque cuentan con una alta concentración. Es por eso que, en personas con alergias y pieles sensibles pueden causar irritaciones. Se recomienda hacer una prueba de tolerancia poniendo una gota del aceite esencial en la muñeca o en la parte interior del codo. Si a los 15 minutos no hay signos de irritación, es que se presenta buena tolerancia. Es especialmente importante realizar la prueba de tolerancia en el caso de usar los aceites esenciales en niños y ancianos.

Consultar con un especialista en caso de embarazadas, personas con enfermedades neurológicas, drogodependientes y consumo de medicamentos.

Algunos aceites, como los de los cítricos, son fotosensibles por lo que se debe evitar la exposición al sol dos horas después de su uso, ya que pueden provocar manchas en la piel.

Mantener fuera del alcance de los niños. En caso de ingesta accidental, consultar a personal sanitario.
