How is your skin feeling these days? In summer , and especially at the beginning of the season, it is easy for the skin to become irritated or damaged in other ways, such as cracked heels or sunburn.
There are small damages that can be normal after three seasons in which the skin has been protected by clothing and footwear. However, if we are careless, we can move on to ailments that are no longer so normal and it is important to try not to reach that point with some preventive treatments. We must bear in mind that the skin is another organ of our body, the largest, in fact, that we must take care of.
At Alma Eko we want to help you prevent and treat skin wear with some suggestions:
SUN PROTECTION
Obviously, the first thing we should focus on is protecting our skin from the sun . This is something that, for health reasons, we should not neglect at any time of the year, but in summer we must be especially careful because ultraviolet rays are stronger, we tend to expose ourselves more because we do more outdoor activities and wear less clothing, and it is easier for us to get sunburned.
Our suggestion is that you use sun protection with a physical filter instead of a chemical filter. What is the difference?
- Physical filter sun creams offer screen protection for our skin thanks to their mineral compounds. One of the components that allows this and which is usually the most common is zinc oxide . The skin does not absorb this type of cream, but rather creates a film that prevents the sun's rays from penetrating it.
- Instead, Chemical filter creams do penetrate the skin and, when we expose ourselves to the sun, a chemical reaction occurs in the epidermis that makes UV rays harmless . Its components, many of them synthetic , 'force' our body to perform a function that, a priori, is not natural. This is why, in the most sensitive skin, irritations and allergies can occur . In addition, these creams usually contain parabens and silicones, elements considered by many experts as potential toxins and endocrine disruptors , so they are not the best option for our health.
When the first physical filter creams came out, they were quite thick, difficult to spread and tended to leave whitish residue on the skin. Over time, manufacturers have achieved more fluid consistencies, which spread better and leave no residue .
With physical filter creams, you don't have to wait for the skin to absorb it before you can expose yourself to the sun . They offer protection from the moment you apply them. They tend to be quite water-resistant , but you have to use a little common sense here. If you apply the cream in the morning and take a quick dip all day, you don't need to reapply it; but if you take long baths or several times a day, you should reapply it to avoid unnecessary risks.
At Alma Eko you will find two options for physical filter sun creams:
- Sol de Ibiza sunscreen : for face and body, which you will find in three different varieties, with SPF 30 protection in a can, with SPF 50 protection in a can and with SPF 50 protection in a stick.
- Fuka Eri sunscreen : with SPF 50 protection factor, also mineral. Suitable for the face, it has a touch of color that evens out skin tone and helps cover imperfections such as pimples and redness.
SKIN REFRESHMENT
In summer, on vacation, we tend to spend more time outdoors, especially at the pool and beach. The sun, the hot air and going in and out of the water can dry out our skin quite a bit . It's a good idea to have a mist-type product to apply to the face and body to restore moisture to the skin . At Alma Eko you can find Damask Rose Tonic for this purpose . Apply it with a spray bottle to your skin and you will immediately notice that it refreshes and acquires a delicate rose scent.
You can also make your own homemade mist with essential oils. In this live stream we did on Instagram we tell you how.
SOOTHING SHOWER
After a day at the beach or pool, our skin may need a little rescue. If you want to give it a natural treatment, forget about conventional aftersun . We suggest a soothing shower in three steps:
- Use Calendula soap , which has moisturizing properties and helps soothe irritated skin.
- Exfoliate your skin with soft sponges. The perfect ally is the konjac sponge , which allows for effective exfoliation but is not irritating at all. The exfoliating power of this sponge is surprising for how soft it is. Another option is the soft face sponge. This shower glove is made of loofah on one side and organic cotton on the other.
- Moisturize your skin after showering with a body lotion. The coconut , lime and herbal lotions for sensitive skin from our online store, in addition to deeply moisturizing, will leave your skin feeling fresh.
REPAIRING CREAMS AND BALMS
We suggest completing your skin care routine after a summer day with repairing creams or balms that help damaged skin to regenerate .
If you have specific areas that have suffered more than necessary, such as your heels, the inside of your arms or legs, and also your lips, which tend to dry out and crack, shea butter is your great ally . It has enormous moisturizing and repairing potential. At Alma Eko you can find three different solutions that contain this ingredient that works magic:
- Pure Shea Butter , unrefined and organically grown.
- Clemence & Vivien lip balms with shea and organic oils, available in three fragrances: Sweet Citrus, Almond Milk and Summer Flowers . Just like those of the Matarrania brand: cinnamon and clove and mint .
- The Matarrania elbow and heel repair cream .
In addition, with pure, raw and unrefined shea butter you can make your own homemade cosmetic products very easily. On the blog we have a recipe for shea butter and coconut oil balm that is very easy to make.
We hope the tips we've shared in this post will help you have healthy skin this summer .
