Endocrine disruptors in cosmetics
A few weeks ago we talked about the toxicity of household cleaning products in our bodies ( you can read it here ) and today we are here to talk about the health problems that affect women in particular (although in recent years the number among men has been increasing) due to the use of cosmetics and body care routines with commercial products (including some from pharmacies...yes, yes, you read that right), which although used in small quantities do not pose a great risk, the accumulation of them every day, every month of every year can pose a great risk of suffering from some disease caused by the chemical ingredients used to make our creams, makeup, perfumes, soaps, toothpaste, deodorants, etc.
The most common disruptors we find in today's cosmetics are:
.-Parabens, used as preservatives… (ingredients ending with “…paraben” do contain it, discard them)
.-Phthalates, these are more difficult to recognize, but you can find them under these names or nomenclatures dibutyl phthalate (DBP), disobutyl phthalate (DIBP) and diethyl phthalate (DEP) .
.-Triclosan another preservative and antiseptic
.-Bisphenols, present in polycarbonate plastic containers or containers containing the symbol 7.
.-Titanium dioxide and zinc dioxide, these are found in sunscreens for example
.-Heavy metals, such as lead, mercury and/or arsenic ?
-It is also important to avoid fragranced products, as these can hide a large amount of harmful chemicals, unless they specify that they are made with pure essential oils.
These are just a few examples of endocrine disruptors you might find when reading the labels of your daily body wash or face cream. We advise you to look for products with certified organic seals (Ecocert, for example) or that are non-toxic and free of artificial fragrances.
Benefits of using cosmetics without endocrine disruptors
The first and most important: you gain HEALTH , reducing the risk of contracting diseases such as cancer, neurological and respiratory diseases, reproductive problems, etc.
You help reduce the environmental footprint with more environmentally sustainable products.
