Why do you find this section in Alma Eko?

At home we live with a beautiful little dog. We have had 3 dogs at the same time, so our home has been full of things for them and… Oh, surprise! Almost everything was made of plastic: their food bowls, their toys, parts of their collars or leashes, the inner padding of their beds, the packaging for their food and hygiene products…

Plastic-free pet care is now at a PRO level. There are not many options on the market yet. In fact, there are some things for which we have not yet found a plastic-free alternative, but we have implemented certain changes that make us very happy, both humans and animals.

We changed the plastic bowls for metal ones, we offered them toys that you can find in our online store, we switched to solid shampoo to clean them and, of course, the bags we use for their excrement are compostable. In this way, we not only take better care of the planet, but also the pets are in contact with nobler and healthier materials for them.

We still have a long way to go in terms of ensuring that our pets' care is 100% plastic-free, but we are not giving up. Our goal is to get as close to Zero Waste as possible, also with our furry friends.

If the change to a plastic-free life is not easy in our daily lives, if you have pets, finding alternatives can be even more so. The plastic industry is so powerful that it is practically impossible to escape from it today.

We know that the biggest problem is single-use plastics. In the case of pets, opting for compostable poop bags made from bioplastics (corn starch) is already a big step.

Sometimes, in our search for alternative products, we come across some compounds that contain a very small percentage of petroleum derivatives, such as polyester. At that time, we always ask ourselves the same questions: Does it replace a single-use plastic product? Have we found a better alternative? Does the product have other qualities that make it worthwhile? Is this product better than its 'conventional' substitute? After thinking about these aspects, the decision of whether or not to include that product in our catalogue is easier.

Alma Eko is a plastic-free store, even though some of our products may contain a small percentage of petroleum derivatives. But finding the best alternatives is our goal and we dedicate our energy to it.

We feel that movements like Zero Waste , Plastic Free , Low Waste or Low Plastic (the latter perhaps a bit more realistic) are our own. We are committed to caring for the planet from the perspective that resources are finite and it is in our hands to make responsible use of them and stop polluting the oceans with our garbage.
